WHAT IS CBMCS?
On June 2-3rd, the Multicultural Leadership Institute, Inc. (MLI) will offer the first of many trainings to come for mental, behavioral health and substance abuse service providers and administrators, on SAGE Publication's "CBMCS Multicultural Training Program." SAGE has been an international leader in developing and disseminating resources and literature for the social and behavioral health science fields since 1965. The CBMCS curriculum was over 8 years in the development stage, was empirically tested, and is now available in CT specially through MLI, Inc. CBMCS stands for the California Brief Multicultural Competence Scale.
MLI is pleased to announce that it is the first agency in Connecticut to implement an official SAGE-CBMCS Training of Trainers program, utilizing the established curriculum, and facilitated by one of the CBMCS creators, Dr. Gloria Morrow of Upland, California. The core of trainers in CT included Dr. Morrow as the team leader, and a cadre of professional trainers in cultural competency, clinical service provision, and prevention, representing private non-profit and state agencies. This group, led by Dr. Morrow herself, will be your facilitators for this two day premiere of the SAGE CBMCS Training at MLI.
The CBMCS Training Program, as a stand-alone training program, is quite comprehensive, and includes modules on multicultural competency specific to mental, behavioral health and substance abuse service providers. It also addresses clinical and socio-political angles to addressing culture within provider and client contexts. CBMCS bridges the gap between research and clinical practice in tangible ways, through presentations and interactive activities and audiovisuals. References, citations, and bibliographies are also included for further research. For more information on CBMCS, please see: http://www.sagepub.com/cbmcs. For more information on MLI's services and programs please see: www.mli-inc.org.
